children and young people
are encouraged to:
• Speak about their feeling (ie – how
did the music make them feel)
• Experience and talk about managing stress through music and relaxation techniques.
• Take part in musical improvisation with a hands-on exploration of the instrument
• Ask questions and express their views
After the workshops there are various educational opportunities for teachers to encourage:
• The promotion of self-reflective practices to help children express and manage their feelings
• Explore the historical and cultural significance of the Harp as Scotland’s national instrument
• Explore further creative music making activities for mental and emotional wellbeing of the children

Music has a vital role in the development of young people. It not only encourages creativity, but it also helps to build confidence, self-esteem and emotional wellbeing.
The aims of the Harp workshops are:
1) to encourage the emotional wellbeing of children and young people by sharing and exploring the topic of 'feelings' with the aid of harp music;
2) to enhance creativity with an interactive music making component;
3) to highlight the cultural significance of the Harp and explore cultural identities with the children and young people of Scotland.
